IDC IT Security Roadshow 2010 Helps Companies Develop Resilience to Cyberthreats

Prague, February 08, 2010

IDC, a leading global provider of IT market research services, is launching the 2010 series of its flagship IT Security Roadshow. The traditional conference series provides a platform for the exchange of ideas, experiences, and discussions on best practices among independent experts, analysts, industry leaders, and users of IT security solutions. Starting February 25, 2010, in Kiev, Ukraine, the roadshow will visit 25 major business centers across Central and Eastern Europe, the Middle East, and Africa (CEMA).

Subtitled "Battling Sophisticated Threats: Security Strategies for the Resilient Enterprise," this year’s IDC IT Security Roadshow takes a holistic approach to IT security, showing attendees how it is a business enabler rather than merely a mandatory cost and offering practical advice on developing effective security programs that respond to changes in IT and work paradigms, as well as within the legal framework.

"The emergence of new types of security risks has become an everyday reality. Advances in technology and changes in usage patterns and work paradigms bring about new attack vectors and threats to business continuity," says Jeffrey Vavra, IDC's Research Manager for Software in the CEMA region. "The negative effects of the financial crisis naturally lead to greater sensitivity to risks. Many companies respond wisely by increasing IT security budgets rather than cutting costs in this area, because failure to tackle security threats may have serious business implications, including the loss of revenue or customers."

Expert speakers featured at the conference will include: Marco Gercke, Secretary of the Criminal Law Department of the German Society for Law and Informatics, who also works as an expert for the Council of Europe; Dan Lohrmann, Michigan Chief Technology Officer (CTO) and Director of the Infrastructure Services Administration within the Michigan Department of Information Technology (MDIT); and Craig Schiller, Chief Information Security Officer of Portland State University (Oregon, USA) and President of Hawkeye Security Training, LLC.

Partners of the conference include some of the world's leading providers of IT security solutions and services, including Bynet, IBM, Microsoft, Trend Micro, and many others.
