"The advent of networkable printers, multifunctional peripherals, and document software promised to fully integrate imaging and printing fleets with the IT infrastructure and to efficiently connect the digital and paper worlds. IDC research finds, however, that today's devices remain non-optimally utilized, ownership and thus control of these devices is highly fragmented, and services delivery of the imaging and printing infrastructure is not properly managed. All of this leads to inefficiencies and unnecessarily high costs.
Managed print services (MPS) are a cost-efficient solution aimed at reducing costs and increasing productivity. MPS incorporates all cost elements associated with imaging and printing, and not just the hardware and supplies aspects of the value chain. MPS helps to streamline the overall TCO of imaging and printing infrastructure, making previously hidden costs visible and company spending more transparent – and thus controllable. Additionally, the unprecedented information boom increasingly requires the optimization of underlying document workflows and business processes along the document life cycle.
IDC's Document & Print Management Solutions 2010 series focuses on a range of aspects concerning printing and document processes. As a leading platform for exchanging ideas and experiences, it enables discussion of best practices, with independent experts, analysts, key people in the printing industry, and users of printing solutions.
