Andy Hicks focuses his research on the business and technology strategies of telecoms service providers in emerging markets. He has written on infrastructure and product/service challenges spanning the Middle East, Africa, and Central/Eastern Europe, most recently concentrating on managed services, network transformation, enterprise markets, and regional M&A trends. He also coordinates the MEA and CEE Telco Strategies subscription research services.
Before joining IDC, Hicks was Managing Director at the National Research Exchange, an equity research and capital markets services firm, responsible for developing partnerships with equity research providers and critical Wall Street support organizations. He was also instrumental in designing an innovative equity offering analytics suite. He has passed the Series 7 and Series 63 exams.
Previously, he performed both strategic consulting and application project management in mobile/wireless computing, corporate intranets, user experience, and web marketing. His clients have included major software vendors, investment banks, pharmaceutical companies, and media firms.
Earlier, Hicks taught language and literature at Columbia University, where he earned an MA and MPhil in Russian Literature. He also holds an AB in Russian Studies from Amherst College.
